Your differential is what allows your wheels to turn at different speeds through a corner — and out here in West Texas, where trucks haul heavy loads and tackle rough terrain on a daily basis, it takes a beating. When it starts to go, you'll usually hear it before you feel it. Don't ignore it. At Permian Basin Transmissions, we specialize in the drivetrain systems that keep your truck or car moving forward, and that includes everything from fluid services to full differential rebuilds.

Services we provide:

  1. Differential Fluid Service
  2. Front & Rear Differential Repair
  3. Differential Rebuild
  4. Axle Shaft Replacement
  5. Seal & Gasket Replacement
  6. Ring & Pinion Gear Service
  7. Limited-Slip Differential Service
  8. Transfer Case Service
  9. Full Drivetrain Inspection

Keeping Your Differential in Shape

Differential fluid breaks down over time, losing its ability to protect the gears inside. Most manufacturers recommend a fluid change every 30,000 to 50,000 miles, more often if you tow, haul, or run a 4WD system regularly. During a differential service our team will drain and replace fluid with the correct specification for your vehicle, inspect seals and gaskets for any signs of leaking, and check for play, noise, or wear that could indicate deeper internal damage.

Catching a differential problem early is almost always cheaper than letting it go. A fluid change might cost you an hour of time. A full rebuild costs significantly more.

Signs your differential may need service:

  • A whining, howling, or grinding noise that changes with vehicle speed
  • Clunking or vibration when accelerating, decelerating, or turning
  • Fluid leaking from the rear axle or front differential housing
  • Handling feels loose or unpredictable, especially in turns
  • Your 4WD or AWD system is engaging rough or not engaging at all

If your truck is telling you something's wrong in the drivetrain, bring it in. We'll diagnose it accurately and give you a straight answer on what it needs.
